City Cup 2012
City Cup is a youth football tournament organized by Football school “Metta” and Football club “Jelgava”. It was first held in 2011. More than 54 teams from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and England participated in City Cup 2011. Thanks to so many participants City Cup is the biggest youth football tournament in the history of Latvia.
Thanks to the high responsiveness last year, the tournament will also be organized this year. It will take place in the beginning of July – 6th to 8th July. It is estimated that this year even more countries from Europe will participate. As not only teams from one country participate in this tournament, it is an outstanding opportunity for new player and their coaches to get to known with football culture and style from all around the Europe.
City Cup 2012 will be organized for 7 age groups – U-7, U-8, U-9 (6 players on the field), U-10, U-11 and U-12 (8 players on the field), and U-13 (11 players on the field). If sufficient number of girl teams will apply, there will be a separate group for girls; otherwise girl teams will be allowed to play with 1 or 2 years younger boy teams.
City Cup 2011 was organized for 6 age groups – U-7, U-8, U-9, U-10, U-11 and U-12. In U-7 and U-8 groups don’t compete for first, second or third place as for so young players it is more important to show the bright side and joy of football not to look at their results. The winners in U-9 group were SK “Liepājas Metalurgs”, in U-10 FS “Metta/Rīga” but in U-11 and U-12 FC “Blackpool” from England.
